Marisa and Peter had a beautiful afternoon wedding at Barefoot Cay. This private island was a great place for this destination wedding. The ceremony took place at the end of a dock under a thatch palapa and surrounded by turquoise water. Afterwords the newlyweds took a boat ride around the cay where we met on the beach for a few more romantic wedding couple photos.
This weekend we had another beautiful beach wedding at Palmetto Bay Plantation. This started a little bit earlier in the afternoon allowing more time after the ceremony with beautiful light. After the ceremony, as the newlyweds walked up the aisle, guests showered them with bubbles. Later in the evening, guests lit sky lanterns and released them into the night sky.
This week we had a beautiful destination wedding at Infinity Bay Beach Resort on West Bay Beach. The ceremony took place right on the beach, and all the guests had the chance to watch a beautiful wedding with the backdrop of a brilliant sunset over the Caribbean Sea. After the ceremony everyone enjoyed a reception and dancing at the resort
This week I had the opportunity to photograph a beautiful beachfront wedding situated on West Bay Beach. Although the wedding party was staying at Infinity Bay Resort, the ceremony took place on the isolated western end of the beach, ensuring no interruptions by other beachgoers. After the wedding ceremony finished, I captured a few group photos before the guests returned to the resort, and left me with a few precious moments with the newlyweds. I took this chance to capture some romantic posed-couple wedding portraits on the beach. Afterwords, we all returned to the wedding reception for toasts, dancing, and celebration.
Palmetto Bay Plantation in Roatan, Honduras is the host to many beach weddings, and it's easy to see why. With a large sandy beach, tall coconut palm trees, a beautiful isolated location, and an attentive staff dedicated to the wedding, Palmetto Bay Plantation makes it easy to forget about all the details and just enjoy your wedding day. This couple had a not-so-typical church wedding. Conch shells, and palm fronds made the 'aisle' leading to the bamboo 'alter.' Guests enjoyed the open blue sky of the beach 'cathedral' with a light breeze blowing through their hair. Apart from the beautiful setting, the ceremony proceeded just as expected. After the ceremony I took the newlyweds away for a few quick wedding photos, then they returned to the festivities.
Here are a few photos from a sunset beach destination wedding at Bananarama Resort and Island Perl. It was a perfect day with clear skies. Once the guests were seated, the groom made a surprise entry on a small boat splashing through the clear Caribbean water of West Bay. The ceremony was followed by a sand ceremony irrevocably intertwining the grains of sand representing both bride and groom. After the ceremony everyone relaxed and enjoyed themselves on the beach watching the sunset over the horizon, while I captured images of the happy couple walking down the beach.
Barefoot Cay Resort is a small luxury resort located on a private cay just off the island of Roatan. Such a location makes it a great spot for a destination wedding with your close friends and family. This wedding couple chose to have the ceremony just before sunset to take advantage of the cool breezes, and beautiful sunset. After walking down an aisle made of tiki-torches, the bride and groom stood on a bed of flower petals and preceded with the wedding ceremony. Afterwords all the guests enjoyed champagne as we went to get some romantic portrait photos on the palapa and along the dock.

When planning a destination wedding to the beautiful island of Roatan, most couples have lots of ideas of just how they want everything to play out. For a destination wedding on a tropical caribbean island, that often means a sunset wedding on the beach. The beach can be a great place, and sunset is definitely a great time, but for the best photos, timing is everything. If you have never been to Roatan, you may not realize that the sun sets much earlier than in the north. When planning for your sunset wedding photos, keep in mind that the best time for photos will be about 30 minutes before, and 20 minutes after sunset. After that, the beach and sea will be dark, and few resorts have sufficient spot-lights for photos on the beach. If you are planning to have romantic couple shots as well as posed group photos on the beach after the ceremony, be sure the ceremony will finish with sufficient time for daylight photos afterwords.
Because sunset time changes throughout the year, I use this handy time tool to see when it will be setting at any time of year. Using this, I can see when the sunset is for a wedding 3 or 6 months in the future, and make a recommendation to the bride and groom accordingly.

It's not always sunny in Roatan. Being a tropical island, sometimes it's stormy and rainy, but that couldn't stop this wedding vow renewal ceremony. It was wet and windy, but definitely memorable.
